February 2026 Newsletter

We are pleased to share an important leadership update that strengthens the partnership between the Sons and Daughters of the Vietnam War (SDVW) and the National Vietnam War Museum.

As President of SDVW, Dennis Schlemmer has served as the liaison between our organization and the museum. Dennis has now been invited to join the Board of Directors of the National Vietnam War Museum as an official museum board member — a significant honor and a testament to his dedication and leadership.

With this transition, Suzy Messinger, National Treasurer, will now serve as SDVW’s museum liaison. This continued connection ensures strong communication and collaboration as we work together to honor Vietnam veterans and preserve their stories.

Elections for all officer positions and general board seats will be held this April, and we truly encourage any member who is interested to consider running.

Whether you are a current board member or someone who has never served before, we ask that everyone wishing to run submit a short bio. We are actively hoping to welcome new voices, new ideas, and fresh perspectives to help guide SDVW into the future.

📅 Bio deadline: March 1Bios will be shared with members in advance of voting, which will take place in April.

📧 Please submit bios to: sdvw.info@gmail.com

Vietnam Veterans Day, observed each year on March 29, honors the service and sacrifice of the men and women who served during the Vietnam War. It is a day to reflect, remember, and ensure that their service is never forgotten.

SDVW will have a booth at the National Vietnam War Museum on March 28, and we would love for members who are able to join us in person. Your presence helps show support not only for our organization, but for the veterans and families we honor.

📧 If you are interested in joining us at the booth, please contact: sdvw.info@gmail.com

This year, SDVW proudly nominated James “Jim” Messinger for the Service Beyond Service Award, presented by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF).

This award honors living Vietnam veterans whose continued service has made a lasting impact beyond their military years. Jim exemplifies the spirit of this recognition through decades of dedication to veterans, education, and historic preservation, including his long-standing involvement with the National Vietnam War Museum.

Award recipients will be announced on Vietnam Veterans Day, March 29.
